Ahhh, famous last words...

It was three years ago that the original Alaskan Nomad site was put up on what was then an emerging World Wide Web. My first feature film, Kusah Hakwaan, was just about to have its premiere - and what better place than in Los Angeles. We were chosen for two screenings at the fledgling Dances With Films Festival - a relatively new fest that had already developed an excellent reputation as a launcher of independent filmmakers. We were included in the Year Two line-up and had a tough act to follow - in Year One over half the feature films had received domestic distribution.

We hit all the traditional avenues - printed postcards, made phone calls, pounded the pavement. But times they were a changin', and even though we didn't know what a hyperlink was, we knew we needed a web presence. Luckily I knew a very talented designer named Peter Hampus in Sweden. He asked me to e-mail him some pictures along with stories of what it's like shooting a feature in temperatures so low that the film snaps when you turn on the camera. Because of time restrictions, the plan was to throw up a temporary, band-aid of a site for the festival.

"This will be a quick and easy one," I said. "We'll leave this up for a month or so and then put up the real site." Peter agreed.

Things have changed a lot since then. Kusah Hakwaan has screened at over sixteen festivals, won four international awards, premiered in Europe and had a run at the Smithsonian Institute. A series of commercials I directed won national accolades. And a number of my Music Videos went national, showing on HBO, The Box Music Network and Black Entertainment Television (BET). But the website remained the same.

But no longer, sayeth we!

Through some serendipitous happenings, we're ecstatic that Matt Hopper of the Velvet Club Collective has signed on, rolled up his sleeves, and done some serious housecleaning. And what you're looking at are the results (and hopefully you're looking with slacked-jawed, buggy-eyed awe like we are).

Not only have Matt's talents as a designer made the pages a pleasure to look at, but there are a lot of new tidbits to explore. Click away to find a number of our music videos and commercials to download, links to artists with whom we're working, and even peruse the page where the enlightened can buy our stuff. And for those of you who miss the previous Nomad site... you don't need to. The great site designed by Hampus Media has been preserved in its entirety, and is just a click away.

So we hope you enjoy our new look. Take a peek around, sign up of our newsletter (the button's up there!) or - better yet - sign us up for your next project. We nomads get anxious sitting in one place for too long.

Be well,
Sean Morris
