Up to those old tricks again...

Well, it happened again. We've been traveling the world. Seems to be in our nature (heck, it's in our name!). And what adventures we've seen. Most of the time it's been ping-ponging back and forth between Alaska and Mexico (can you say difference in temperatures?), working on commercials for supermarkets in both locations. Feel free to read more about the commercials I directed for Safeway Supermarkets (or “Vons” as our friends in California might know them). We had a lot of fun working with this national supermarket chain, and are very pleased with the results.

Equally as interesting is “the work we have in the works”, so to speak. A lot coming up. But being a superstitious bunch (and knowing the nature of this business) we've decided to keep things under wraps until we have confirmation and there's film running through the cameras. But sufficed to say in the past three months we've been submitting numerous music video proposals to well-known companies, working on tons of ideas for commercials and cementing exciting new projects/partnerships in the US, Mexico and Canada. Well, shoot... that's every country in North America.

Go Nomads.

Sorry to be so tight-lipped, and we’re bursting to tell you about some of the big stuff. But we’re optimistic about these opportunities, and know we’ll be able to fill you in on at least some of the good news soon. In the meantime, you can read about one sure-thing thing we know we’re doing, some great commercials for The Anchorage Literacy Project.

Speaking of good news. You may remember a while back that we had the honor of giving the folks at Standing Together Against Rape (STAR) a hand by making some commercials for them, free of charge. Well, according to a statement from a STAR Spokesperson, the commercials were “instrumental in helping STAR secure a generous $10,000.00 grant from Wells Fargo Bank.” Needless to say, the Warm Fuzzies were flowing at the office the day we received that call. We’d like to thank STAR for the opportunity to help a cause in which we truly believe. We’d also like to give Wells Fargo Bank huge kudos for stepping up to the plate and doing their part.

More big news came in the form of critical raves for Nomad writer Bryan Davidson’s latest theatrical play “War Music”. A piece that explores the creation of music and its relationship to the ravages of war, “War Music” opened in Los Angeles in December. Acclaim was both instantaneous and well deserved. Bryan was slathered with awards, not the least of which being War Music’s selection as the “Los Angeles Times Critics Pick for Notable Shows of 2002”. Some more reviews:

"Playwright Bryan Davidson's fine original script... gets an exquisite production by a gifted ensemble... a terrific play."
- Hoyt Hillsman, BackStage West
Critic's Pick

"Timely, heart-breaking and wistfully humanistic."
- Wendy Gilmartin, LA Weekly
Recommended

"Beautifully resonant... a lasting meditation on artists' connection to the world around them, to each other, and to the ephemeral, spiritual nature of creation."
- Jennie Webb, KCRW Public Radio, Los Angeles

Way to go Bryan. We always knew you were a genius here at Alaskan Nomad, and now the whole world knows. You can read some of Bryan’s work on our music video treatments (scripts) by visiting our projects page.

But the updates don’t stop there. Browse the site to find out about our new projects, updates on the Kusah Hakwaan DVD, information on where you can purchase your very own copy of the Kusah Hakwaan Motion Picture Soundtrack, and more.

So as always, take a peek around, sign up of our newsletter (the button's up there!) or - better yet - sign us up for your next project. We nomads get anxious sitting in one place for too long.

Be well,
Sean Morris
