Leaps and bounds...

Pardon me a minute... just a bit... I seem..., I seem to have dropped something. What is this? Oh, here it is. A name. It's:

Sony Music Entertainment.

Name-dropper.

Hell yeah. When it's a name like that, you better believe it.

We hinted at it in our last newsletter. We worked on it for months. Bryan Davidson and I wrote more than seven very different music video treatments. And in the end, all the hard work paid off. A couple of months ago I directed my first music video for Sony Music, and if I wasn't such a loud mouth I'd be speechless.

The band was "Cabrito Vudu", an extremely talented bunch from Monterrey, Mexico. Their music is so original, it almost defies classification. How does rock/pop/ska/punk/jazz/electronica/reggae sound? And if you think the description of their music sounds interesting, wait until you hear them play it. The song was "All You Need Is Love", a laid-back, lounge-ready love song played in a straight reggae groove. The video was shot over a four day period in “Barrio Antiguo”, a beautiful, colonial neighborhood in the heart of Monterrey. It featured a large cast, numerous locations, and plenty of late nights. The end product is stunning, and is currently airing on television stations everywhere. Click here to read more, as well as to get pictures and more information about the video.

Another project that proved to be one heck of a ride was the music video we just wrapped for the pop/ska/punk hooligans “Nothing Less”. After recently signing to Alcatraz Records in San Francisco, the band has an album coming out and are launching a new music video to go with it. Bryan and I cooked up some ideas for them, and the one they chose was a Three Stooges induced, pratfall-filled schmack-fest. Ahhh, slapstick. It doesn’t get any better than that. Physical comedy is always fun, but the problem can be that it is... well, kinda physical. This begs the question (without giving too much away): how do you make a music video with guys flipping over cement banisters onto their backs, getting dropped onto their heads from great distances, and launching themselves sprawling onto hard wood floors... without getting them killed? The answer is: find three incredibly talented musicians who are making big waves in the music industry and who also happen to be certifiably nutso. Worked for me. Anyway, for more info on the video and how we did it, click here.

And how about another flurry of awards and cool goings-on for Nomad writer Bryan Davidson! If you remember our last newsletter, Bryan’s play “War Music” won just about every award possible in the Universe, save for Xogniz Hoffernoxer’s "Nog Thafflmagners Hubblnor Award" on Phobos-14. But face it folks, that one’s degraded into such a blatant popularity contest, it’s not even worth mentioning. And as if all that previous acclaim wasn’t enough, now “War Music” has gone ever farther. Recently the LA Stage Alliance nominated the play for SEVEN of it’s coveted Ovation Awards, including one for Best World Premiere Play. If you missed “War Music” during its first run, you can catch it soon at the prestigious Geffen Playhouse in Los Angles. Dates are January 13 to February 22, 2004. For more information, including where to get tickets (!), visit the Geffen’s site here.

But wait! There’s more! We had the pleasure of working on a slew of very cool commercial campaigns as well. New spots for the Anchorage Literacy Project, which featured two radically different concepts to get across one very important point - the importance of reading. To see more of them, click here.

The other campaign consisted of some crafty spots for the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. A very cool concept coupled with lots of slow motion and steadicam work. Now how ya gonna beat that? The end result is two very slick spots (if we do say so ourselves). Have a look and see here.

But the updates don’t stop there. Browse the site to find out about our new projects, updates on the Kusah Hakwaan DVD, information on where you can purchase your very own copy of the Kusah Hakwaan Motion Picture Soundtrack, and more.

So as always, take a peek around, sign up of our newsletter (the button's up there!) or - better yet - sign us up for your next project. We nomads get anxious sitting in one place for too long.

Be well,
